About US

George Mason University’s Panhellenic Council serves as the governing body and advocate for sorority life on campus, representing seven National Panhellenic Conference chapters: Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Together, these chapters form a unified community dedicated to uplifting the “face behind the letters” and supporting the holistic development of every member. Rooted in the core values of friendship, sisterhood, leadership, service, knowledge, and community, the council works to create meaningful experiences that extend beyond college and prepare women to lead and make a lasting impact.

Guided by a commitment to unity and empowerment, the Panhellenic Council fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment where diverse perspectives thrive. Through leadership development, mentorship opportunities, and philanthropic initiatives like the Circle of Sisterhood, the council strengthens both individual growth and collective impact. By balancing governance with genuine support, Panhellenic not only oversees its chapters but also uplifts them—ensuring that, while each sorority maintains its unique identity, all members are connected by a shared purpose and enduring bond within the Mason community.

Letter from our President

Welcome to the Panhellenic community at George Mason University! My name is Trista Nyhuis, and I have the honor of serving as the 2026 Panhellenic President.

This community holds a special place in my heart, and I am confident that it will become just as meaningful to you. We have 7 diverse chapters and hundreds of amazing women who diversify our Panhellenic community. Each chapter offers a supportive, welcoming, and empowering space where you can discover more about yourself, build meaningful connections, excel academically, and grow in ways you may not even expect during your time at George Mason University.

As a transfer student and U.S. Navy veteran, I was overwhelmed and anxious when I first arrived at GMU. Formal recruitment seemed daunting; classes were starting, and I was beginning to question if I’d ever find the community I needed. Fast-forward to Bid Day, and running home to my chapter was only the beginning. I had no idea that chapter would become my community, and those strangers would become my closest friends and my sisters.

Joining my chapter changed everything. It quickly became the place where I felt safe, understood, and genuinely supported. My journey didn’t stop there. Building relationships with women across the Panhellenic community has been one of the greatest privileges of my college experience. These women believed in me through my own uncertainties and massive life changes, such as becoming a civilian after exiting the military.

There is a place in our Panhellenic community for you. Together, we will continue to cultivate an environment where every woman feels valued, empowered, and safe. Please know that as you embark on this journey, you are never alone. I am beyond excited to cheer you on as you begin this amazing chapter of your life – I guarantee it will be unforgettable.

If you ever have questions, need advice, or just want to chat, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at gmupanhellenicpresident@gmail.com. I cannot wait to see the incredible friendships you form and the impact you will make within our Panhellenic community and beyond.

All my love,

Trista L. Nyhuis
